The A3TS is pleased to invite you to the 4th edition of the 2025 J2TS "Tribology and Surface Treatment" conference in Toulouse on November 19 and 20. This conference will provide a timely presentation of the main advances made by the Tribology Commission and offer feedback from its various members, covering a broad spectrum of the industry.
In addition to the lectures, these days will offer visits to laboratories and/or industrial sites in the fields of tribology and surface engineering at nearby university/industrial sites.
Following a partnership with the 2020 Surface Manufacturing Conference in Saint-Étienne, this year the J2TS will be held in parallel with the Dry Coating Conference, with joint plenary sessions that will provide an update on the latest innovations in these coatings, which are found in numerous tribological applications.
Surface treatments play an essential role in the functionalization of mechanical components, particularly in the control of friction and wear issues.
The A3TS Tribology Commission is working on the tribological component/function/surface treatment triptych, and is focused on:
Resolving difficulties related to the tribological characterization of materials and standards and tests characterizing friction and wear,
Developing a matrix of applied solutions to address these functionalities,
Proposing simplified tests to control deviations in the tribological performance of coatings during production and more representative tests for the identified key components or positions.
These objectives, although simple to express on paper, are in fact much more difficult to achieve due to the complexity of tribological problems on the one hand and the very wide range of surface treatment processes on the other. Among the existing processes, some must be gradually replaced. However, when moving from one process family to another, the mechanical response and wear mode can vary, which requires careful consideration of the evaluation method and criteria.
In this context, the arrival of artificial intelligence could contribute to the building, either through its capacity to collect data or through its capacity to suggest connections.
